PREFACE

This SPPS book is fundamentally a reference book for students who are new to SPSS. Students do not have to know about statistics to be able to come up with well-calculated analyses. All the students need is the IBM SPSS Statistic software and data. It is a simple guideline for students to learn what is meant by analyzing data with SPSS and not about statistics. This book aims to provide a simple, step-by-step guide to the process of data analysis using SPSS. It does not focus on the mathematical underpinning of the techniques, but rather on the appropriate use of SPSS as a tool.

There is no explanation of statistical theory or how calculations are performed. This workbook is specifically designed for students about the things you can do to command SPSS software to calculate statistics for you. Again, students do not need to be experts in statistical calculation techniques but can still use SPSS to produce some smart statistics. Although the workbook outlines each statistical procedure, this is not a statistical text.

The concept of the workbook arose from experience in teaching and using research methods in an applied context through consulting practice and evolved from a need to make research methodology more accessible and understandable to students who are undertaking research methods courses. Therefore, this workbook is designed for students completing research design. Hopefully, this guide will give the students the confidence to tackle statistical analyses calmly and sensibly, or at lease without too much stress!
